The answer is yes. In accordance with the latest regulations from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), it is now mandatory for all properties held within self-managed superannuation funds to undergo valuation in order to substantiate a market value. Previously, this was required once every three years however the latest from the ATO is that they would prefer it is done so annually, or every second year as the bare minimum. This can be done by obtaining a sworn valuation, engaging with a real estate agent for an appraisal, or providing a comprehensive report grounded in objective and supportable data that adheres to industry standards.
